Resumen: El regreso del cometa Halley en 1910 fue un suceso que se popularizó debido a su importancia científica y a la controversia suscitada en torno a él. Si bien la difusión de este evento se realizó por diferentes medios, el presente trabajo tiene como objetivo estudiar específicamente el proceso de popularización documentado en el diario mexicano El Impartial. Nuestra metodología se basa en el análisis cualitativo de contenido, con el cual identificamos cuatro temáticas centrales: “explicación científica”, “controversia”, “interés del público” y “expectativas para 1986”. El estudio de estas temáticas evidencia a los personajes que impulsaron la divulgación, los intereses y estrategias de la prensa, así como la reacción del público.
