Article Description

A dramatic condition of acute intracranial hypertension is often observed after a severe head injury. The pathogenetical process underlying such a situation is probably represented by the vicious circle between the progressive increase of the cerebral blood volume and the intracranial pressure due to the deficiency of the cerebral autoregulation with increase of the vascular resistances. This process may be controlled, on the basis of the intracranial system biomechanics monitoring, by a decompressive surgical procedure (craniectomy and durectomy).
