We provide an overview of recent developments of the partial differential equation (PDE) filtermethod for the electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI) fringes. Different PDE models arediscussed and compared. The main emphasis is on the two development directions of the PDE filtermethod in ESPI and some filter results are given. Finally, the outlook for the PDE method in ESPI isdiscussed.
