The families belonging to the lower social economic class have to contend with the hardships of daily life. The children of the poor have to help their families earn a living oftentimes to the detriment of their education, ironically the only probable means to alleviate their poverty. This is a descriptive study that was conducted to determine the perceptions of the young adult breadwinner and the interaction in the family. The study population consisted of 20 working young-adults, ages ranging of 18 to 25 studying and/or has reach college level, residing in Metro Manila.Data was gathered through the use of the interview method and was processed with the use of content analysis.To validate the results whether the young adult breadwinner performed the instrumental role composed of household management, authority figure and decision making. All of the participants contribute to household utilities, 55% shares for other expenses, 30% of the participants expressed that they pension and educational plans are helpful in supporting their financial needs, while 15% of them are the sole financial source of the family. 70% of the participants expressed that they are part of the decision making process, while 30% expressed that their parents still makes the decisions. 95% reported that the authority figure are still their parents and 5% claimed to be the authority figure.In describing their relation with their family members a scale was formulated consisting of the following levels: very close, quite close, neutral, distant and very distant.
