Article Description

In this paper, I will use Elaine Brown as a case study of a black female activist in the late 1960s who joined a Black Power organization for her own empowerment.Throughout my paper African womanism and Social Movement Theory, explicated more fully later, will serve as a framework for my analysis. This exploration will serve to highlight the ways in which black women in the late 1960s negotiated racialized and gendered spaces to achieve their own empowerment.
