Liturgical Catechesis: Its Place in the North American Church

This paper will consider the nature and constitution of both liturgy and catechesis and how they relate to form liturgical catechesis and from this discussion a consideration of how liturgical catechesis functions. It will conclude with a consideration of the need for liturgical catechesis. Is this a vacuous term or is liturgical catechesis a real and pressing need in the North American Catholic Church today? Since the term "liturgical catechesis" involves both the areas of liturgy and catechesis as distinct entities it is necessary to consider how each functions on its own even before considering how they relate to one another.
