Artifact Description

This research analyzes Singapore’s one-party system, its controls of civil society, and the inability for local NGOs to advocate on behalf of foreign domestic workers. Foreign domestic workers are an especially vulnerable group of migrants due to the majority female in the trade and their residency in their employers house. The question asked is what route can be used to advocate for foreign domestic workers under a repressive authoritative government? What can be concluded from the evidence is that local NGOs must collaborate with transnational NGOs to produce effective advocacy campaigns that have influenced policy change for the benefit of foreign domestic workers.
