Artifact Description

About 50 million Americans do not get adequate sleep, leading to dangerous and unproductive conditions in workplace. Much of this sleep deprivation is a result of poor sleep hygiene, or routine sleep habits and environment. The purpose of this study is to gauge the success of a Sleep Hygiene Educational Module on employees of the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. Subjects complete a baseline survey describing their current sleep quality. Half complete the educational module, while the other half complete a “sham” module with no educational content. After two to four weeks, subjects are given an identical survey to gauge changes in sleep hygiene and quality. The educational module could be implemented into employee training materials in order to improve their quality of life, workplace conditions, and overall hospital efficiency.
