Poster Description

Evidence-based research and practice is revealing that the practice of rooming-in has many benefits for both mother and infant in the immediate postpartum period. Hospitals around the nation and the world are implementing rooming-in over traditional nurseries in hopes of attaining these benefits. Several studies regarding this concept have come to the conclusion that rooming-in is best practice in various obstetrical units for many reasons. These benefits include higher breastfeeding rates, increased confidence, better sleep quality, more skin-to-skin opportunities, earlier identification of cues, and more. Some hospitals who have implemented the practice of mandatory rooming-in are now called “Baby-Friendly” due to their support of individualized care, maternal bonding, and infant feeding.
