Thesis / Dissertation Description

The effect of non-linearity on the interaction of surface wave with bottom undulations in stratied fluids is investigated. The wave steepness of surface wave is varied in the range of 0.003-0.03 which generates an internal wave covering the range from incipient wave breaking to strong plunging wave. The waves start showing the non- linear behavior around a wave steepness value of 0.02 and a maximum wave steepness of 0.61 is observed for higher amplitudes of surface waves. We study the effect of non-linearity on the interaction of surface wave with bottom undulations and show that the ratio of the amplitude of resonant wave with respect to incident surface wave amplitude reduces when the interaction between the two layers is in non-linear regime. We also show the effectiveness of cloaking by quantifying cloaking efficiency. The mixing efficiency increases with the increase in wave steepness.
