Level of the physical assessment skills of community health nurses and midwives in patients with respiratory and diarrheal diseases as perceived by nursing students batch 2006 of De La Salle Health Sciences Campus

This study used a non-experimental descriptive method of research design. The respondents were the BS Nursing students Batch 2006 of De La Salle Health Sciences Campus who had community exposure in Bacoor and Imus, Cavite during the third year level. A total of 209 students, or 100% of the total population, were distributed to six (6) sections using purposive sampling technique. The tool used to gather information from the respondents was a questionnaire. The statistical treatments utilized were frequency distribution and f-test or ANOVA. The following conclusions were drawn: 1) Majority of the respondents were exposed to both Imus and Bacoor Health Centers. Section 3 had the most number of students, which comprised 18% of the total population while Section 4 had the least number of students with 15% of the total population. Majority had only one (1) rotation for their community exposure; 2) The level of physical assessment skills of community health nurses and midwives as perceived by nursing students Batch 2006 was rated 2.51-3.50 which indicates that their performance is in a satisfactory extent performance; 3) There was a significant difference in the level of physical assessment skills of community health nurses and midwives in patients with respiratory and diarrheal diseases when respondents were grouped according to section, area and frequency of exposure. There were significance differences on the results because perception is subjective in nature. Different personalities may mean different perceptions. As for the area of exposure, these health centers have differences with regard to facilities, manpower and systems of approach.
