Artifact Description

With the mushroom growth in telecommunication coverage, powering the mobile base stations has become a source of concern for the mobile operators. Operators are not only concerned with the high energy bills due to frequent tariff hikes by the utility companies, but also because commercial power has often times proved to be unreliable or in some cases unavailable to their mobile base stations. As a result, they have to rely on diesel generated power which is not only eating away their profit margins but also a great hassle to operate due to fuel theft and environmental hazards. Due to ht importance of the base stations and the current state of power availability in the country, this problem has become one of biggest threats to heir sustainability going forward. To address this concern, many operators have started looking for alternate ways of powering mobile base stations. Due to readily available sunlight in the country, solar power seems to be a quick fix to this problem. But, because of the inherent technical considerations like solar power production requirement and site load configurations, this proposition is quite complex.
