Met this morninganother young Lady fromFranklin - Miss Watson - whois interested in California.Took the cars for East Wiltonthence proceeded to Stoddardthrough the towns GreenfieldHammock in a stage. A mostdelightful journey to me. Thescenery here is very wild πcturesque. The mountainsor more properly hills, aboundwith rocks, and in some places,banks of snow were to beseen. Had a magnificent10. - view of the Grand Monadnow. I begin to realize now asnever before that the hillsof the "Old Granite State" aretruly "lofty magnificent" andgreat. "At Stoddard wemet Uncle and Aunt AbbottMay 11. Had a sail on the pond atStoddard. Then in companywith Aunt Abbott set outin a carriage for Langdonwhich we reached about 4o'clock in the afternoon.May 12. Sat. Langdon. Spent the forenoonwith Aunt Mary Howardhad a "sugaring off" as it iscalled, boiling maple safe tomake sugar. Enjoyed it much.
