Article Description

While Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) is a field that involves people from many disciplines, few courses on the subject allow students from multiple disciplines to work collaboratively on semester long projects. This paper describes a course on Human-Computer Interaction and a series of assignments that support interdisciplinary teams of students working together to design and then evaluate the usability of interactive computing applications. The author's evaluation of the course revealed that 94.9% of students "agreed" or "strongly agreed" with the statement, "This course increased my understanding of how to design and then evaluate the usability of an interactive application." This result suggests that students find the author's approach to HCI instruction to be effective.
