Paper Description

The Mizes Anorectic Cognitions (MAC) questionnaire is a 24-item self-report measure designed to tap three cognitive components of anorexia and bulimia nervosa. We examined the factor structure and psychometric properties of the MAC in university undergraduate samples (n = 290). We found that a modified 3-factor oblique model was the best fit to the data. The total MAC and subscales showed satisfactory reliability. The MAC correlated moderately with related measures of eating disorders demonstrating evidence of concurrent validity. The MAC subscales also showed evidence of discriminant validity by differentiating between empirically-defined subclinical eating disorder and control groups. But Logistic regression analyses showed that only one MAC subscale was useful in distinguishing between the groups.
