Banned Books Week; censorship; challenges
article description
Every year, Oregon's public libraries receive objections to materials in their collections, usually on the basis that the materials deal with sex, religion or witchcraft. The Multnomah County Library received 14 challenges against books and audiotapes in 1990. Three books were removed after the library director and staff committee reviewed the materials; the other items were retained. Statewide challenges in public and school libraries have increased in the previous two years.
