Judge Sonja Clapp of the Northeast Central Judicial District has announced that she will resign Dec. 1. She was elected judge in 2004 and re-elected in 2010. In her resignation letter, Clapp said: "During my years of service to the people and State of North Dakota, I have developed a great appreciation of our state's unique and special sense of goodness and community and the role our courts play in maintaining our way of life. I will forever be grateful for having the opportunity to serve." Prior to her election as district judge, Clapp served as Assistant State's Attorney for Grand Forks County from 1988-2004. She graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Law and was admitted to the North Dakota bar in 1987. Before law school, she was employed by Grand Forks and Ramsey County social services for approximately 11 years.
