conference paper description
Much of the scholarship on the German Jewish poet Hilde Domin has focused on her biography, as she spent 22 years in exile, first in Italy, then England, and finally the Dominican Republic. Upon returning home, Domin became one of the most celebrated living writers in Germany, and there is still much work to be done in terms of critical analysis of her writing. This project explores Domin’s conception of resistance as expressed in her lyric poetry. Ultimately it seeks to bring a poet often described as being “Außerhalb jeder Regel” (outside of every rule), into the discourse of world literature.
