thesis / dissertation description
This work focuses on the way that Bonaventure of Bagnoregio’s humble leadership can be a model for Church leadership today. It first provides an overview of the life of Bonaventure and the challenges he effectively addressed as leader of the growing Franciscan order. The research draws from sources connected to Bonaventure’s Franciscan theology of humility in relationship to the humility of God reflected in the incarnation. It continues by connecting humility to Christian moral life and other virtues. Finally it moves to the connection of deep incarnational humility and engaged leadership in the church today and provides a sample of specific measures that can be applied for positive change within the Church. The thesis proposes that a faith-filled leader be first humble, and from that humility the grace of God will flow. This close relationship with Jesus Christ will enable the leader to be authentic and effective.
