The San Francisco-based Gallo Research Institute conducts experiments that seek to observe electroencephalograph (EEG) waves in laboratory rats subjected to various stimuli. The apparatus for making these observations is a complex system that requires a thick cable connected to a specialized helmet, mounted on a rat's head. The mass and constraining nature of the cable are additional factors in the rat's behavior, which researchers would like to eliminate. To alleviate the constraints of the cable, the Gallo Researchers proposed that a short-range, low power, wireless telemetry device be developed as a drop-in replacement for the cable.
