article description
Implementation of primary nursing on a 34-bed medical/surgical unit is described. The role of the head nurse in establishing communication among care givers is crucial to the success of primary nursing on her unit. Patient evaluation of primary nursing care versus team nursing care by means of questionnaires was begun six months after inception demonstrated patients to be significantly more positive in their recall of primary nursing.
