report description
At the Baylor clinic I worked closely with a group of U.S. physicians who are working with the Pediatric AIDS Corps. They were wonderful teachers and I got a lot of experience seeing patients and doing physical exams. During my week at the Maternity Ward at Bottom Hospital I worked with Malawian clinical officers seeing patients in the labor ward and in the operating theatre assisting procedures. My week in the maternity hospital was an amazing hands-on experience and I learned even more being the only Westerner among my Malawian colleagues. Throughout the summer I had the opportunity to travel throughout Malawi and to Zambia. My experience in Malawi was an extremely valuable learning experience both in terms of medicine and culture. I am coming away from this summer with an increased desire to work internationally.
