thesis / dissertation description
The Passage Beds are part of Upper Jurassic, Lower Oxfordian strata exposed at Filey Brigg. The Passage Beds can be classified into five different units, based on petrographic, stratigraphic, and paleontological analysis as opposed to previous studies that only separate it into two units. These units are storm deposits that washed in shelly and reef debris during a time of little sediment accumulation at Filey Brigg. The sedimentation in the Jurassic Cleveland Basin was influenced by tectonic upflif, creating a regressive low-sea level stand during a period of sea level rise.
