thesis / dissertation description
Most scholarly documents about the Holocaust are either historical or literary. In this paper the author attempts to get closer to original experience - to peel away the layers of analysis and theorizing that surround scholarly texts of the Holocaust. As a way of learning about what happened, and as a way of appreciation and hopefully respecting their human tragedy, the author turned to videotapes of Holocaust survivors. The research focuses on narratives and their tellers - testimonies as text and as form.
