Article Description
RESUMEN El siguiente trabajo tiene como objetivo examinar la presencia de la cultura popular estadounidense en Chile durante la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, así como la recepción y el impacto que generó dentro de la sociedad chilena. Para aquello, se realizó un estudio histórico-hemerográfico cualitativo de fuentes de prensa y documentales entre 1850 y 1900, junto con una revisión bibliográfica sobre literatura relativa tanto a los fenómenos culturales de Chile y Estados Unidos, como a las artes escénicas y espectáculos de variedades decimonónicos. Como resultado se logró observar que existió una mutua influencia entre los conjuntos norteamericanos y la sociedad chilena, ya que ambas partes reinterpretaron su rol y prácticas producto de la exposición ante nuevos espectáculos y la crítica de estos.
