Introduction: This study realized an analysis about the pertinence in request of the electroencephalogram ( EEG ), as part of the different medical specialties at the Fundacion Cardio Infantil - IC. Methodology: A retrospective descriptive cross-sectional study takes as sample the performed electroencephalograms realized on a comprehended period of time between January 2008 to September 2008, at the Fundacion Cardio Infantil -IC. There were 1211 electroencephalograms analyzed. Results: Pertinence on the electroencephalograms request was found as higher on neurology services with a 95.2% followed by medical specialties with a pertinence of 90.5%, neuropediatric 90.2% surgical specialties 77.2% and general medicine with a 55.4% of pertinent request. Discussion: The rational use of the to diagnose tests is a very good documented subject in literature, as shown by this study the request of EEG at the institution has an appropriate support, following the medical guide directions based on evidence; however, it is necessary to continue with the realization of strategies and studies that guarantees a continuing formation of different professionals, to improve the literature adherence recommendations not only for the electroencephalograms request but also from other diagnostic tests, guaranteeing a more certain pertinent and cost-effective attention.
