thesis / dissertation description
The fish production sector in Huila has a big potential for the region and the country that has to be exploited, looking for the development of sustainable competitive advantages that leads to economic growth, expansion and general sector development. The present work pretends to explore different strategies that can contribute to the development of such competitive advantages. Evaluating different factors that influence in the sector, according to Michael Porter’s competitive diamond, and exploring the enterprise’s value chain we generate a SWOT analysis (Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) to build a vision of the strategies to follow in value generation. After exploring the possible strategies that the sector could follow, we find several common points: the creation of a brand to achieve product recognition by the final consumer and the development of added value through new products or reaching new market segments. Considering the international experience other sectors have had, we recommend the enterprises in the fish production sector to generate cooperation spaces (as a cluster) where they have and work for specific focused goals to generate added value for the whole sector and strength an international recognized brand.
