Book Chapter Description

Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) are fragments of cDNA clones. They correspond to the most abundant type of cDNA information available in the public databases. ESTs have been used for expression profiling, gene identification, characterization of differentially expressed genes, and identification of transcript variants among other utilities. In this review I will discuss the major features of the collection of ESTs available in the public domain giving a special emphasis on how this dataset has been used in studies about human diseases. © 2009 Humana Press, a part of Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.
