Book Chapter Description

Peripheral neuropathy is commonly seen in breast cancer patients both actively receiving care and breast cancer survivors. Both short-term and long-term neuropathy can have a profound impact on quality of life during survivorship. Surgical and systemic treatments can cause neuropathy. Mastectomy can be complicated by the development of post-mastectomy pain syndrome and/or persistent post-mastectomy pain. Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy is common following treatment with chemotherapies used within the breast cancer setting. This chapter will review both surgical and systemic origins of neuropathy, identify risk factors, and review prevention and treatment modalities.
