Book Chapter Description

This chapter explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the educational services provided to young children with disabilities. This chapter synthesizes the available pandemic-related research pertaining to young children with disabilities into four strands: (1) the frequency and intensity of special education services provided to young children with disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic, (2) perceptions of families regarding the educational services and supports their young children with disabilities received, (3) early childhood personnel’s challenges providing remote learning to young children with disabilities, and (4) innovative aspects of educational service delivery for young children with disabilities during the pandemic. This chapter ends with a discussion of key considerations and recommendations for integrating technology into early childhood instruction and adapting instruction to be inclusive for all young children.
