Book Chapter Description

Nanotechnology has attracted a lot of attention recently because of its potential medical applications. With the nanotechnology’s capacity to condense technology to very small sizes, it allows doctors to treat patients in a new way. However, one of the strategies-nanoencapsulation that is being developed could be very useful in the food industry. Nanoencapsulation is the process of packaging nanoparticles, such as nutrients, into a secondary shell to form nanocapsules. Within the healthcare industry, the technology allows for tailored drug distribution. It allows food to be filled with nanoparticles that carry nutrients to cells more efficiently in the food sector. This chapter presents information on the bioavailability of nanonutrients, their potential safety issues, and regulations.
