Book Chapter Description

Childhood blindness is a public health concern in which early detection is critical. There are a range of etiologies that affect the visual pathways from the eye to the brain cortex. Due to the subjective nature of visual perception, vision loss is difficult to assess, particularly in the pediatric population. This chapter outlines a detailed approach to evaluating vision loss in a child. Potential etiologies will be discussed as well as when to refer to an ophthalmologist.
