Book Chapter Description

The randomized clinical trial (RCT) is the most rigorous way of determining cause-and-effect between treatment and outcome, also providing data needed to assess cost-effectiveness. There are fewer RCTs in endodontics than in other areas of clinical dentistry, with many studies having serious methodological limitations. This chapter reviews the key RCTs in endodontics, identifying strengths and limitations, the unique challenges in endodontics, gaps, and recommended future directions. We also discuss the Preferred Reporting Items for RAndomized Trials in Endodontics (PRIRATE) 2020 guidelines.
