Review Description

Neonatal erythroderma is caused by a heterogenous group of predominantly hereditary skin diseases with or without involvement of other organ systems. It represents a pediatric medical emergency requiring immediate hospital admission in most cases. An adequate diagnostic work-up frequently requires special investigations including dermatohistopathology, immunological laboratory determinations and molecular genetics. The current article summarizes the clinically relevant aspects of differential diagnoses, diagnostic procedures and treatment of neonatal erythroderma based on three case examples.
