Article Description

The synthesis of long-chain oxygenates (C) from methanol is examined at atmospheric pressure and 523-673 K. The Cu-ZnO/d-HT (decomposed hydrotalcite) catalyst shows ca. 10% yield of C at 573 K and a weight hourly space velocity of 0.2 h; whereas, no C is formed over Cu/d-HY, Cu-MgO/AlO, Cu-ZnO/Al O, or a commercial Cu/ZnO methanol synthesis catalyst. The role of the synergistic effect of Cu, ZnO and the basicity of d-HT and the possible reaction intermediates for the C synthesis are discussed. © 2007 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.
