Conference Paper Description

Massive transformations are composition-invariant phase transitions that can be distinguished from other transitions in the solid state by certain characteristic features in their nucleation and growth behavior. The occurrence of several massive transformations will be discussed with reference to these features, and with reference to the history of the studies of massive transformations, the controversies that have arisen, and several questions that still remain unanswered. A modified definition of a massive transformation is proposed.
