Article Description

A current focus in biocatalysis lies on multienzymatic cascade processes operating in a one-pot mode without the necessity for isolation of reaction intermediates for the synthesis of high-value compounds. The biocatalysts involved in such multienzymatic cascades can be isolated or immobilized enzymes, cell-free extracts, whole-cells, or combinations thereof. Particularly interesting are artificial biocatalytic cascades combining enzymes from different organisms meaning that the cascade is not part of a natural metabolism in organisms.
