Article Description

This study reports a simple environmentally benign biosynthetic route for the production of copper nanoparticles (Cu NPs) using aqueous extract of Aloe vera leaves. The morphology, size, composition and crystallinity of the prepared NPs were investigated by TEM and XRD analyses. The prepared Cu NPs were found to be spherical in shape with an average diameter of 45–62 nm. The Cu NPs showed surface plasmon resonance (SPR) property at 590 nm. EDX studies showed the existence of elemental copper in Cu NPs. The phytochemicals, such as flavones and proteins in leave extracts, acts as a reducing and stabilizing agent. A total of 93 and 96% of Methyl Violet 6B and Methylene Blue dye were degraded using Cu NPs (as a catalyst) within 150 and 135 min, respectively.
