Article Description

Computer simulations have been used to investigate the effects of attractive and repulsive interactions on reaction-limited cluster-cluster aggregation. In these simulations, power law interactions between the centers of all the particles in an aggregating pair of clusters were assumed. The simulation results are consistent with the idea that short range ( r −6 ) interactions do not change the asymptotic fractal dimensionality, but that long range ( r −2 ) interactions lead to substantial changes. However, long range attractive and repulsive interactions can have an important effect on local (short length scale) structure. The effects of attractive and repulsive interactions on aggregation kinetics were also explored.
