Article Description

A magneto-absorption measurement up to 150 T was performed on CdTeCd1 − xMnxTe multiple quantum wells (MQWs) with relatively large Mn content of x ≈ 30% using the explosive single-turn coil technique. Evident features associated with the magnetic-field induced type I-type II transition were revealed in the field dependence of the heavy-hole exciton absorption for σ + polarization — a reduction of the absorption intensity and the onset of a red-shift of the exciton energy. These observed features were found to be reproduced qualitatively well by a variational calculation when the valence-band offset ratio Q v is assumed to be 30–40%.
