Article Description

1.1. The rates of oxygen consumption by individual grass shrimp, Crangon franciscorum, were determined both before and immediately after the shrimp had been fed with one of three experimental diets, and these rates were used to calculate the specific dynamic effect of each diet.2.2. The magnitude of the calorigenic effect of diet was significantly influenced by the type of diet.3.3. Specific dynamic effect was highest for the tubificid diet, which caused an elevation in metabolic rate of 43% above the routine level, while the mysid and the fish diets resulted in increases of shrimp metabolic rates of 14% and 23% respectively.
