Article Description

Nuclear quadropole resonance (NQR) of 139 La is investigated in variously oxygenated La 2 CuO 4−y. The saturated internal magnetic fields at the La site are invariant against defects of the crystal, suggesting that sublattice moments of Cu spins at the ground state do not change with the amount of oxygen deficiencies. On the contrary, the antiferromagnetic transition temperature, T N, depends on the oxygen deficiencies. In the low temperature region below 70 K, the enhancement of the nuclear relaxation rates, 1/ T 1, is strongly correlated with the decrease of T N.
