Article Description
El control del riesgo vascular debe hacerse de forma global en cada paciente. Incluye el manejo adecuado de la diabetes, hipertensión y otros factores de riesgo como el tabaquismo. Los objetivos en el control de la diabetes deben ser individualizados y adaptados a cada paciente. El tratamiento se basa en cambios en la dieta, el peso y ejercicio físico y en los fármacos que incluyen insulinas y antidiabéticos orales. En el tratamiento de la HTA el beneficio depende de la reducción de las cifras de presión arterial. Modificaciones del estilo de vida y fármacos contribuyen a alcanzar los objetivos marcados. Las estrategias de deshabituación tabáquica han demostrado aumentar las tasas de abstinencia. Se basan en apoyo conductual y fármacos en caso necesario. Existen tres tratamientos farmacológicos de primera línea que ayudan a controlar la dependencia física del fumador: los sustitutivos de la nicotina (TSN), bupropión y vareniclina.
