Article Description
Los bacilos gramnegativos no fermentadores incluyen una serie de microorganismos de entre los cuales los géneros Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter y Stenotrophomonas son los de mayor relevancia clínica en el ser humano. Su característica fundamental es que se comportan como patógenos oportunistas y, como tales, afectan a pacientes susceptibles por una serie de condiciones como el haber recibido antibioterapia previa, estar sometidos a diferentes tipos de instrumentalizaciones, sufrir algún tipo de inmunosupresión –tanto primaria como inducida– o ingresar en unidades de alto riesgo como pueden ser las Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos. En este tipo de pacientes van a ser capaces de producir un amplio abanico de presentaciones clínicas. El mayor problema en el manejo de estos pacientes viene dado por el hecho de que son microorganismos con una gran capacidad de adquirir múltiples mecanismos de resistencia que hacen que las opciones terapéuticas sean cada vez más limitadas.
