Book Chapter Description
The focus of this chapter is on outlining the behaviour of colloidal dispersions which contain particles in the few nanometres to one-micrometre range with emphasis on aspects relevant to fluid-particle processes. The emphasis is placed upon identifying the source of colloidal particles, behaviour of single particle in solution, characterisation of colloidal dispersion, colloidal interactions, and the stability and destabilisation of colloids. The application of basic concepts in studying the settling of aggregates and particle dispersions is also discussed.
