Epoxy-based composite materials are widely used in load-bearing applications, e.g., automotive, aerospace, construction, oil and gas, and marine industries, because of their low cost, good mechanical properties, high specific strength, super adhesiveness as well as good heat and solvent resistance. For this reason, there is a growing need to investigate and predict the deformation behavior of epoxy-based composite materials under general loading conditions. The deformation mode of epoxy-based composites is influenced either by the morphology of the epoxy matrix or by filler loading. In this way, this chapter discusses the chemical composition and structural properties of epoxy polymer as a matrix in composites; the effects of morphological properties of epoxy and fillers on deformation behavior are also discussed, focusing on a literature overview dealing with the mechanisms of damage and rupture of composites based on epoxy and the criteria to predict the deformation behavior under general loading conditions.
