Book Chapter Description

The immunology of the maternal–fetal interface is an important area of research with broad implications for human health. The mouse has recently provided key insights into this area and promises to be a major experimental system for unraveling the function of uterine leukocytes and determining how dysregulation of intrauterine leukocyte behavior contributes to human pregnancy complications. Here, I will discuss the function of many of the key leukocytes that reside within the pregnant mouse uterus and how local regulation of their population dynamics is optimized for reproductive success. My emphasis will be on methodological considerations and our current limits in knowledge.
