Book Chapter Description

Combining microcultivation with wastewater treatment for biofuel production through a biorefinery model is considered the feasible way for resource utilization. A comprehensive technoeconomic analysis method that integrates resource availability into technoeconomic analysis needs to be employed to evaluate the wastewater-based microalgal biofuel production with the consideration of wastewater treatment improvement, greenhouse gases emissions, biofuel production costs, and coproduct utilization. An innovative approach, which includes integration feasibility with Thermal Power Plants, consisting of microalgae cultivation on concentrate wastewater, microalgae harvest through flocculation, solar drying of biomass, pyrolysis of biomass to biooil, and utilization of coproducts can be considered as a positive approach for a wastewater biorefinery.
