Metric Options: CountsSelecting the 1-year or 3-year option will change the metrics count to percentiles, illustrating how an article or review compares to other articles or reviews within the selected time period in the same journal. Selecting the 1-year option compares the metrics against other articles/reviews that were also published in the same calendar year. Selecting the 3-year option compares the metrics against other articles/reviews that were also published in the same calendar year plus the two years prior.
Example: if you select the 1-year option for an article published in 2019 and a metric category shows 90%, that means that the article or review is performing better than 90% of the other articles/reviews published in that journal in 2019. If you select the 3-year option for the same article published in 2019 and the metric category shows 90%, that means that the article or review is performing better than 90% of the other articles/reviews published in that journal in 2019, 2018 and 2017.

Review Description
Electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs) generating homogeneous or heterogeneous hydroxyl radicals have received great attention because these represent a real solution to fulfill Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6), however, persulfate/sulfate-radical-based EAOPs (S 2 O 8 2− /SO 4 •− -EAOPs) have been widely investigated during the past decade, as an innovative and efficient electrochemical SDG6 solution for degrading refractory organic contaminants and waterborne agents. In this minireview, the state-of-the-art of the electrocatalytic production of S 2 O 8 2− and SO 4 •− is comprehensively analyzed and classified, and then, the current progress on the research of the mechanisms related to the electrosynthesis and electroactivation is summarized. Several viewpoints and controversies on the mechanisms are given as well as the developments that might be addressed in future, are highlighted in the end. Overall, further developments on the S 2 O 8 2− /SO 4 •− -EAOPs depend on design, nature, and high-efficiency electrocatalysts’ composition to achieve an efficient reaction-process control as well as a real applicability (as in situ or ex situ approaches) and boosting the reaction systems.
