Review Description

The use of various surgical procedures outside of implant arthroplasty available for the treatment of posttraumatic ankle arthrosis has been discussed in detail. The authors reviewed the literature, described surgical techniques for each procedure, and described ways to prevent and address the most common complications. As with any other major surgical procedure about the ankle and lower leg, specific attention should be paid to the potential for developing a deep venous thrombosis and infection. Appropriate measures should be undertaken to minimize their occurrence. © 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
